It’s 1886, and Julius and Sarah McCoin have just staked their claim near Gray Butte. With grit and a few saplings gathered on freight runs, they planted an orchard along a stream on their homestead. The Heritage Apple Corps builds on that legacy, helping to revitalize the McCoin orchard and others like it.

CJ Johnson and In Cahoots
CJ Johnson didn't realize how much apple trees meant to her until she and her partner Mike bought and restored an old cabin overlooking a small heritage orchard on their property. CJ, a natural born community builder, had already started In Cahoots, a grassroots collaborative team of small growers in Central Oregon. As she dug into our local roots, she realized how much these heritage orchards symbolize for Central Oregon, and carved The Heritage Apple Corps out of In Cahoots to revitalize, protect and maintain these living monuments to our cultural history.
