With expert guidance and hands-on practice, you’ll gain experience on a prepared block of wood. Plus, take your piece home to keep the creativity flowing!
George Blackman is a local treasure. As much historian as craftsman, George fashions his own tools from machines that are twice his age, each with its own storied past. Blacksmith, sculptor, inventor, carver, woodworker, you name it, all rolled up into one engaging, enthusiastic member of our Central Oregon community. George built his career as a welder, but his passion is in working with traditional tools to handcraft practical works of art.
George Blackman is a local treasure and a talented tool maker. We'll supply handmade knives and gouges for you to work with. And you can buy the beauties in this picture for only $20. Handmade gouges for $30 to $50. Such a deal!
Join School of Ranch and get 20% off all workshops for a year. Your membership helps us cover our costs. Being non-profit doesn't mean you can lose money! We need your support and nothing shows support as much as a membership.
Wear comfortable clothes; we'll be indoors. Close-toed, sturdy shoes are a must in case something sharp decides to escape your hands. Tie your hair back for extra safety.
If you have carving tools or a cool piece of carved wood you'd like to share, bring them along. Bring safety glasses too! And a snack, and water. Something to take notes with is also a good idea.
For safety reasons, this workshop is open to participants aged 16 and older.
We won’t be serving food, so pack a snack and water if you’ll need a little energy boost.
