George Blackman
George Blackman is a local treasure. As much historian as craftsman, George fashions his own tools from machines that are twice his age, each with its own storied past. Blacksmith, sculptor, inventor, carver, woodworker, you name it, all rolled up into one engaging, enthusiastic member of our Central Oregon community. George built his career as a welder, but his passion is in working with traditional tools to handcraft practical works of art.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How should I dress?
Wear comfortable clothes; we'll be indoors. Close-toed, sturdy shoes are a must in case something sharp decides to escape your hands. Tie your hair back for extra safety.
What should I bring
If you have carving tools or a cool piece of carved wood you'd like to share, bring them along. Bring safety glasses too! And a snack, and water. Something to take notes with is also a good idea.
What about kiddos?
For safety reasons, this workshop is open to participants aged 16 and older.
What about food?
We won’t be serving food, so pack a snack and water if you’ll need a little energy boost.
What is School of Ranch?
School of Ranch is a Central Oregon-based 501c3 nonprofit. We hire skilled community members to teach practical and artisan skills. Our mission is to educate, support local entrepreneurs, and provide common ground for people regardless of politics, age, background or beliefs.
