Got rocks? Well put them to work! Join us for a Practical Masonry For Ranch and Farm, a workshop where you'll learn essential skills and be able to apply them -- in this case to build a firepit out of the lava rocks we all have lying around. You can use these skills to build a wall, a walkway, a fireplace - most anything you can imagine. Led by experienced stone mason Morgan Griffin, this hands-on workshop is for beginners and those with some prior experience who want to hone their skills. Workshops limited to 10 participants.

Mortar matters. Discover the art of blending mortar components for optimal strength and durability. After attending this workshop you'll be able to determine the precise ratios to make perfect mortar, and use techniques that result in strong and long-lasting masonry.
From laying the foundation to arranging the stones like a pro, you'll move step-by-step thru the process to create a functional and handsome firepit, steps you can repeat at home. These same skills can be used to build walls, steps, outdoor evens, and more. Good thing we have a lot of rocks in Central OR!

This workshop is designed for adults and involves specific tools and materials that may not be suitable or safe for children. We want to maintain a focused and secure environment for all participants.
School of Ranch is a Central Oregon based 501c3 nonprofit. We hire experienced locals to teach practical homestead skills, live and in person. Beyond teaching skills and creating paying gigs, we help strengthen our community by bringing people together in live learning environments that encourage the development of trust and empathy.
