Get comfortable with the basics of a 12-volt solar system. This includes an overview of panels, batteries, a charge controller, and an inverter—all crucial components that help you harness clean energy on the go. We'll demystify each one so you can confidently install, maintain, and maximize your solar setup.
Discover the essentials of wiring, including how to connect batteries in series or parallel for optimal power and longevity. Learn which wire gauges, fuses, and connectors to use to keep your system safe and efficient for long-term use—no previous experience needed!
Put theory into practice as we guide you through the installation process on an actual trailer. By the end of the workshop, you'll have hands-on experience configuring and testing your new solar system, with insights on troubleshooting and maintenance.
Rick Bell brings over 13 years of expertise, including 7 years as an Airborne Ranger, to his work in self-sustainable living. Since 2014, he’s lived off-grid on a 20-acre property he’s building into a model of self-reliance. With training in electrical engineering and real-world experience with solar systems, Rick is here to help you master the nuts and bolts of 12-volt solar power. When he’s not teaching, you can find him wiring solar setups or working on water systems for his homestead.
